Sharjeel, WB official discuss to further optimise Yellow Line project

LARKANA: Sindh Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Memon held meeting with World Bank’s senior Transport Specialist Lincoln Flor regarding BRT Yellow Line.  It was agreed after detailed review of PC-I and 2 alternate proposals of BRT Yellow Line to hold further meetings and take final decision in week.

Talking to representative of World Bank he said that in order to further optimize Yellow Line project and make it an economically successful model, two alternative proposals had been prepared in addition to its PC-1.  

Alternative proposals had also been shared with World Bank, he said and added that Sindh government was making serious efforts to upgrade public transport system in city.  He added that recently, Peoples’ Bus Service had been launched on major common routes of city with cost of Rs 8 billion. Bus service is successful model with fleet of 250 hybrid diesel buses being run in partnership with National Radio Transmission Company, federal government organisation.  

Lincoln Flor said Karachi is their priority. World Bank is committed to providing all possible support to Sindh government in developing Karachi’s public transport infrastructure.  Secretary Transport Abdul Haleem Shaikh, senior officer of government Zubair Chana, Managing Director Sindh Mass Transit Authority Altaf Sario, Project Director BRT Yellow Line Fazal Ameer, Nespak and Dar Consultants’ representatives attended meeting.
