ISLAMABAD: Awam Pakistan Party Chairman Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that by banning Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the rulers instead of uniting country wanted to divide it. Former PM asked, “Do you want clash between institutions.”
He said that with this decision (reference to reserved seats), Supreme Court had washed away its wrongs. Abbasi said that perhaps ministers do not realise that government cannot ban any party. “They are very fond of imposing Article 6. They don’t realise that Article 6 will apply on many people. You have to sit on table, he asserted. Former PM Abbasi said unfortunately parliament in country had become platform for backbiting. He questioned direction of rulers. He advised government not to create confusion in country. “It has been more than one year since events of May 9. You could not prosecute even one person.” He further said system in country should only be in accordance with Constitution. He said government had not respected democratic and parliamentary values.
He said opposition was beauty of Parliament and democracy. He said that government’s own mandate was doubtful. Former Prime Minister has said that government has no mandate to impose ban on political party. Convener Awam Pakistan Party talking to media said that if Article six invoked against anyone than those in government today could also face it. He was commenting on government’s decision to ban opposition’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. “This is time to unify country, are you want more grouping and chaos,” he questioned.
