Karachi: Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi took a dig at T20 captain Babar Azam, saying he got enough chances to prove himself unlike his predecessors.
His remarks come in the backdrop of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to remove Wahab Riaz and Abul Razzaq from the selection committee following the T20 World Cup 2024 debacle. The ouster of the two key members of the selection committee is being taken as the part of the “surgery” promised by the PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi after the Team Green’s disappointing performance in the mega cricket event. While talking to reports, Afridi said the captain is usually the first person to be dismissed in such situation. He said no captain was given such ample opportunities like Babar has gotten as he has played several international tournaments including world cups and Asia Cups. When reporters sought his comments on the Riaz and Razzaq’s removal, he said: “I am unable to understand this kind of surgery”.
