SFA Chief assures hygienic food items to people of Sindh

KARACHI: Director General Sindh Food Authority Agha Fakhar said that aim of establishing Sindh Food Authority is to ensure hygiene food items to people of Sindh and in this regard on regular basis our monitoring teams visit restaurants, bakeries, manufacturing plants and all other related places to ensure that healthy food items are being supplied and manufactured.

At a workshop on Edible Oil Fortification jointly organised by Nutrition International, Sindh Food Authority and Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association here he said through mobile testing lab, SFA ensures quality of food items being supplied to markets. As part of its duties, van is used to check food contamination to ensure that processed foods are free from undeclared ingredients are accurately labeled and are compliant with relevant food safety standards and rules.

He said that under directives of Sindh Minister for Food Mukesh Kumar Chawla, we were also planning to arrange training sessions for our SFA staff so that they could perform their duties well. He appreciated roll of Nutrition International in improving health of people specially women and children.

Main purpose of workshop is to engage Sindh Food Authority, Food department, health department, PSQCA and other officials from government and NI to discuss importance of fortification of vitamin A&D of edible oil and also sensitise and seek support from all major stakeholders for sustainable progress on fortification and reduce micronutrient deficiencies.
