Senator Mushahid requests opening border with Afghanistan, Iran for trade

ISLAMABAD: Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed requested upper house play its role in opening borders with neighbouring countries, especially Afghanistan and Iran for trade.
Speaking on point of order in upper house, Senator said that delegation from Afghanistan has arrived in Pakistan for request to open up border for trade. He said, “Trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan is around 5 billion dollar, but due to closure of borders, entire business activity is closed, due to which Afghan traders are facing difficulty.”
He said, “Three landlocked countries, including Afghanistan and Tajikistan need land opening opportunities through Gwadar, but unfortunately, Pakistan’s relations with its neighbouring countries are not satisfactory.”
He said, “Pakistan has been host country for all its neighbouring countries for 40 years and same role must continue in future for prosperity and peace in region.” He requested Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Senate to play their roles to facilitate meeting of Afghan traders and to take up issue at highest level for opening up of borders.
