Sedition case against Imran, Gill: IHC puts issue on next hearing

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed area magistrate, plaintiff of sedition case against Imran Khan to appear in court in person on next hearing. Court also issued notices to respondents of case.

Petition filed by Imran Khan seeking dismissal of sedition case registered against him in Ramna Police Station came up for hearing before single bench of IHC led by Chief Justice (CJ) Amir Farooq.

Faisal Chaudhry advocate of petitioner told court that operation on FIR should be stopped till next hearing.

Court remarked notice has been issued. Let reply come then we will see. Court inquired is it petition of dismissal of case. Faisal Chaudhry said he would want to talk on jurisdiction. Matter took place in Lahore and case was registered in Islamabad. Incident occurs in Karachi and case is registered somewhere else. Court had removed registrar office objections on Imran Khan’s petition.

Meanwhile, Islamabad High Court while announcing decision of sedition case against PTI leader Shahbaz Gill has rejected petition against appointment of special prosecutor.

Court declared appointment of special prosecutor Raja Rizwan Abbasi is per law. Chief Justice of IHC Amir Farooq had reserved judgment on petition against appointment of special prosecutor on completion of arguments.

Shahbaz Gill had challenged appointment of special prosecutor in connection with trial in high court. Court has said in its written order that interior ministry appointed Raja Rizwan Abbasi as special prosecutor on request of chief commissioner. As per section 492 of criminal procedure code, special prosecutor can be appointed.
