Security Forces kill all terrorists, KPO ‘cleared’ successfully

KARACHI: Police and Rangers teams have concluded operation to clear Karachi Police Office (KPO) building from terrorists. Terrorists were killed in joint operation of police and Rangers at KPO office of Additional Inspector General Karachi. After concluding operation, law enforcers commenced search operation.

At least three militants blew themselves, while two were gunned down in shootout, officials confirmed, as they swept office situated on main artery of Sharea Faisal. Four people including Rangers and police personnel also lost their lives. “Latest information is that four people were martyred (2 policemen, 1 Rangers and a civilian) while 14 people are injured, who are being treated. Out of injured a person is critical while condition of 13 injured persons is stable.”Jinnah Hospital released list of slain and wounded persons.

A sweeper namely Ajmal (30) lost his life in KPO attack, whereas martyred police official was identified as 50-year-old Ghulam Abbas. Wounded persons included six Rangers, three police including Constable Abdul Latif and an Edhi volunteer Sajid. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif told, “Condemnations are not enough” and strict action must be taken against militants. Attack began at 7:10pm, while police and Rangers personnel cleared five-storey building in phases, finally sweeping entire office by around 10:46pm. Meanwhile, DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Dr. Maqsood Ahmed also reached Karachi Police Office as the incident was reported and led the operation on his own. SP SSU Azhar also took part in the operation.  Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that commandos of police and Rangers arrived at site to deal with terrorists. He said that federal government was in touch with Sindh Police and “All assistance will be provided.”

Advisor to Chief Minister Murtaza Wahab confirmed that KPO building has been cleared and terrorists were killed. He said that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah was present at Central Police Office and monitoring entire situation. He said, Sindh Govt commends entire law enforcement team especially personnel who directly participated in operation to clear KPO building and neutralise terrorists. Entire nation is indebted to their bravery.”
