‘SCBA suspends membership of 10 executive members’

ISLAMABAD: Conflict between Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has intensified after issuance of show cause notices.
SCBA President Abid Zuberi and Secretary Muqtadir Akhtar Shabbir approached Supreme Court (SC) to challenge show cause notices issued by Pakistan Bar Council (PBC). SCBA sought nullification of PBC show cause notices and termed action ‘illegal, violation of Article 9 and political’
Meanwhile, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) made response move against Pakistan Bar Council and notified suspension of ten PBC members including Hassan Raza Pasha, Amjad Shah, Riyazat Ali Seher, Tariq Afridi, Masood Chishti, Ahsan Bhoon and Qalb Hassan Shah. Association referred matter to general body for its final approval after suspending memberships.
SCBA secretary termed executive committee’s decision ‘contempt of court’. Secretary Muqtadir Akhtar Shabbir said PBC wants to take over SCBA.
SCBA President and Secretary stated in their petition that federal law minister is PBC member and council is inclined towards government. It added that PBC issued show cause notice to SCBA Secretary 'on political basis' which is illegal, out of jurisdiction and violation of Article 9.
