Islamabad: Supreme Court’s Registrar Office rejected application moved by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf challenging appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, citing number of objections including “Scandalous language” used in petition.
Plea was moved on January 27 by PTI General-Secretary Asad Umar and challenged appointment of interim Chief Minister, along with appointments of Raja Riaz as opposition leader in National Assembly and members of Election Commission of Pakistan. Petition moved under Article 184(3) of Constitution argued that Naqvi had no political, administrative and legal experience in ensuring rule of law, working mechanism of governments, bureaucracy, requirements of law and or Constitution.
In document issued by registrar’s office, office has observed that petition is “Not entertainable.” Reasons cited by judicial authority pointing out mostly technical issues that nullify petition. However, office of registrar claims that plea does not “Point out as to what questions of public importance in instant case are involved with reference to enforcement of any of fundamental rights so as to directly invoke jurisdiction of Supreme Court” under cited article.
