ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) reserved verdict on pleas challenging Supreme Court (Review of Judgments and Orders) Act 2023 after arguments were completed from both sides.
Three-member bench of apex court headed by Chief Justice Bandial and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar heard petitions challenging vires of Supreme Court (Review of Judgments and Orders) Act 2023.
Continuing his arguments, Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Awan said scope of review has expanded after scope of Article 184(3) has widened. Judges who gave decision earlier can be part of larger bench to hear review pleas, Awan added.
Preoperative of constituting bench still lies with Supreme Court, Awan said and added court gave its ruling that in Imran Tiwana case that without solid reason, law cannot be suspended.
CJP Justice Umar Ata Bandial said right for legislation remains with legislators but here they are talking about constitutional limits.
"We agree with your argument on remedy against 184(3), but ground for remedy should be clarified," CJP said to AGP.
Judgment has been reserved by SC, after completion of arguments from parties. CJP Bandial said verdict in judgments and review law will soon be announced.
