ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has ordered to publish on FBR website all notifications issued for taxpayers. Court issued these orders during hearing of review petition pertaining to re-assessment of tax amount here.

Court expressed resentment over legal officer of Revenue Department Peshawar. Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa remarked powers for reassessment of tax rests with Commissioner Revenue. How can Deputy Commissioner exercise this power. Too much haste is shown in filing appeals in SC. Then it is said SC has entangled revenue cases. When cases are run then court is not assisted. Tax collecting agency should be highly transparent. Tax is collected from people to run country. Why every public notice of FBR is printed. Later this public notice is used to pressurise taxpayer. Difficulties will arise if tax authority does not restore public confidence by bringing transparency.

3-member bench of SC presided over by CJP remarked that unnecessary burden is shifted to tax authority as well as courts due to lack of transparency and concealment of information.

Court while rejecting review petition of Peshawar Revenue imposed fine of Rs 10,000. Amount of fine be paid to any charity of own choice and receipt thereof be filed in court.
