SC orders special JIT to submit progress report on Arshad’s killing after every 2-week

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has ordered Special Joint Investigation team (JIT) constituted to probe senior journalist Arshad Sharif killing to file its progress report after every two weeks.
A five-judge larger SC bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard case.
Additional Attorney General Amir Riaz while filing notification of newly constituted special JIT told court that new special JIT comprises representatives of Islamabad Police and ISI. Representatives of IB and FIA have also been included in new special JIT.
Five members special JIT headed by DIG Headquarters Owais Ahmad includes DIG Sajid Kayani from IB, Waqar ud Din Syed from FIA, Muhammad Aslam from ISI and Murtaza Afzal from MI. He told court all members included in JIT are of 20 grade officers.
CJP remarked foreign ministry has shown way to JIT. Foreign ministry has given good proposals in its report. AAG said if need be Interpol will be contacted to arrest accused persons.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar inquired JIT will complete its investigation in what period.
AAG said investigation will be at mercy of cooperation from Kenyan Police. Investigation team will do utmost on their part that investigation is completed as soon as possible.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar inquired it is possible accused may appear on their own. If accused persons don’t appear then legal course can be adopted.
SC remarked SSP Islamabad and his team will cooperate with JIT. Foreign Ministry has given proposals for legal assistance and handing over accused. According to Ministry every possible cooperation will be extended to JIT. If JIT faced any hurdle it should submit application forthwith court said. Court adjourned hearing of Arshad Sharif murder case till first week of January.
