ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) issued notices to Finance Secretary, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmad, Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Awan and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over non-implementation of its order passed on April 4 to disburse funds for Punjab and KP elections.
On April 4, Supreme Court set April 10 as deadline for government to disburse Rs 21 billion in funds to Election Commission of Pakistan and told ECP to report back to it on April 11.
Government meanwhile, has referred matter to Parliament to decide. In notice issued by SC registrar, apex court issued notices to SBP governor, finance secretary, AGP and directed them to appear before chamber of judges on Friday, April 14 at 11am. It also directed them to bring record and details of money owned by federal government.
Top court noted that report submitted by Election Commission yesterday stated “No funds have at all been released and provided to it as required by order of Supreme Court”.
“Failure of federal government to comply with order of court as aforesaid is prima facie disobedience,” it observed.
