SBCA forms ‘supervisory committee’ against illegal construction

Karachi: Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has formed ‘9-member supervisory committee’ for monitoring actions of SBCA officers against demolition and sealing of illegal and unauthorised constructions in city. A notification has been issued by SBCA Director General Muhammad Ishaque Khuhro. Committee is formed under section 10-A of Sindh Building Control Ordinance 1979.

SBCA Director General is chairman. Rehan Khan Assistant Director/Deputy Director is nominated as secretary/coordinator of committee. Director demolition, director district (concerned), director vigilance, director general complaint cell, SBCA public relation officer, deputy director Legal section and any officer/official co-opted committee.

Committee shall refer complaints regarding illegal constructions to district director through secretary for lawful actions in presence of assistant directors and building inspectors after obtaining approval from SBCA director general. On recommendation of supervisory committee, SBCA district directors would pass order for demolition action in coordination with respective district administration and submit report to SBCA DG on weekly basis. Concerned SBCA district director shall take lawful action against un-authorised construction and get every illegal construction stopped immediately. SBCA supervisory committee is to take legal action against violators, builders and owners who are involved in carrying out illegal construction, adding FIRs should be registered against violators in concerned police station for taking legal action. PRO shall publish SBCA action against illegal constructions in print and electronic media.

SBCA Director-legal section shall inform panel advocates to be appearing before courts of law on behalf of authority for timely compliance of each and every case. Committee chairman shall submit fortnight report regarding actions taken against un-authorised constructions and involved officers/officials to Sindh Minister for Local Government. Secretary Supervisory Committee Rehan Khan said this committee has its uniqueness as it is headed by SBCA DG himself.
