KARACHI: Jailed Human rights activist and philanthropist Sarim Burney was transferred to hospital from court lockup after his health deteriorated.

Meanwhile, Federal Investigation Agency has submitted an interim charge sheet in case. It was reported that Burney had smuggled over 20 newborns in past year under guise of adopting them. Bail hearing for Burney took place in court of Additional District and Session Judge East, presided over by link judge in absence of assigned judge. Defense lawyers filed request to transfer Sarim Burney from Landhi Jail to Central Jail, which was approved by court. However, court adjourned hearing on bail application to June 26 at defence’s request. Defence lawyer Amir Nawaz Warraich informed that Sarim Burney was transferred to hospital due to his deteriorating health while in court lockup. FIA has submitted an interim charge sheet, alleging that accused attempted to smuggle children to USA by falsely declaring them orphans.
