SAPM Tasneem Qureshi, CEO PASDEC discuss promoting marble exports

 ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to PM for Industries and Production Tasneem Ahmed Qureshi highlighted importance of promoting marble exports, which are required to be enhanced to meet existing potential. Speaking at briefing on performance and initiatives of Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC), SAPM said that Pakistan possesses huge reserves of stones having rare colours which make country’s marble and granite one of most promising sectors of economy, said a press release.

PASDEC Chief Executive Officer Babar Miraj Shami presented detailed presentation on formation and development model of company. CEO apprised him about marble and granite sector, its potential, major clusters and sector issues as well. Presentation highlighted exports of top 3 countries of marble and granite along with exports of Pakistan in last 5 years.

CEO informed SAPM that most of machinery and equipment of PASDEC was procured in 2008-09 and with passage of time, machinery is becoming old and resulting in huge repair and maintenance costs, therefore, PSDP funds may be released at earliest. SAPM assured efforts will be carried out for release of PSDP funds under NSPAIT project. Later souvenir was presented to SAPM by CEO.
