ISLAMABAD: In a bid to avoid conflicts and politics over appointment of Army Chief, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah suggested that legislation introduced during PTI’s government to extend tenure of Army Chief should be abolished.
In an interview with a private TV channel, Sanaullah said that legislation will keep disturbing every Army Chief in future as well.
Referring to procedure for appointment of Chief Justice of Pakistan, he underscored need for devising a formula for appointment of COAS. He was of view that senior-most officer should be appointed as next Army Chief through a judiciary-like system. “Prime Minister has discretion regarding Army Chief’s appointment,” he said. He said that Prime Minister will announce name of new COAS in next few days.
Responding to a question about differences between Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz over name of next Army Chief, he termed reports as rumours.
