Famous Indian actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an intruder with a knife at his home in Bandra West, Mumbai, on Thursday.
The actor was immediately admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where he remains under monitoring due to the severity of the attack. Although Saif is now out of danger, the incident has sparked a debate after details of his health insurance were leaked on social media. The insurance company, Niva Bupa, approved most of Saif’s medical expenses, with a total treatment cost of Rs 35 lakh. According to the leaked details, the treatment request was approved on January 16, 2025, and the actor is expected to stay in the hospital until January 21, 2025. Of the total cost, Rs 25 lakh has already been covered by the insurance company. This revelation has drawn attention to the disparities between how celebrities and ordinary citizens access healthcare. Experts have pointed out that insurance companies typically do not approve claims exceeding Rs 5 lakh for non-celebrities, highlighting the contrasting treatment that celebrities receive. While celebrities enjoy significant coverage and quicker approvals, common people often face bureaucratic hurdles and limited coverage, further emphasizing the growing issue of wealth inequality in healthcare. This incident has reignited discussions about the unequal access to medical benefits between the rich and the general public.
