Pakistan’s worsening water and electricity crises have prompted TV host and actor Sahir Lodhi to propose an innovative solution.
During a recent TV appearance, Lodhi voiced his frustration with the ongoing situation and offered to gather a team of 300 engineers to tackle the issues. He suggested the formation of a commission to oversee the allocation of funds and promised to resolve the crises within 18 months. Lodhi criticized politicians for failing to address the country’s basic needs and condemned government officials for enjoying excessive perks while citizens suffer.
He urged the public to demand their rights, stressing that the nation’s well-being should be prioritized above all else. His comments came amid growing protests in Karachi over the severe water shortage that has lasted for over two weeks. Citizens took to the streets, causing massive traffic jams as they expressed their anger over the lack of water supply. Protests organized by Jamaat-i-Islami at 15 different locations questioned why water was being supplied via tankers but not to households, especially after the 84-inch main pipeline on University Road was damaged on November 29, 2024.
Although repairs have been attempted, the water supply has not been fully restored, exacerbating the crisis. Lodhi’s call for action comes at a critical time when Karachi’s water crisis has reached alarming levels, highlighting the urgent need for effective solutions.
