Rupee closes firm against dollar

KARACHI: Rupee closed firm in value against dollar, as domestic unit appreciated 0.05 percent in interbank to close at 277.91 against greenback, gain of 0.13 paisa as compared to previous day.
In interbank market bid rate for dollar was to Rs 277.91 and for offer it was to Rs 278.11. In open market movement, unit gained 7 paisa for buying and remained unchanged for selling against dollar, closing at 279.41 and 280.70, respectively. Against Euro, unit lost 10 paisa for buying and 21 paisa for selling, closing at 308.92 and 311.92, respectively. Against UAE Dirham, it remained unchanged for both buying and selling, closing at 75.55 and 76.30, respectively. Against Saudi Riyal, unit gained 4 paisa for buying and 7 paisa for selling, closing at 73.80 and 74.49, respectively. Internationally, dollar rose broadly on Thursday, recovering from an earlier tumble in immediate aftermath of Federal Reserve's outsized interest rate cut that had been largely priced in by markets. Oil prices, key indicator of currency parity, rose on Thursday after large interest rate cut from US Federal Reserve. Brent crude futures for November were up 81 cents, or 1.1 percent, to $ 74.46 a barrel, while WTI crude futures for October were also up 1.1 percent, rising 75 cents to $ 71.66 a barrel.
