Lahore: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced government allocated Rs 10 billion to help Turkiye’s earthquake relief efforts, saying that Pakistan will continue to assist calamity-hit country every day.

Speaking at an airport here where relief goods were being sent for earthquake victims, he said Pakistan will never leave Turkiye in these circumstances, urging nation to pray for victims of earthquake.

Thousands of people have been killed and wounded in Turkiye and Syria and many are searching for their loved ones stuck under rubble.

“I believe that people of Turkiye and Syria will come out of this difficulty,” he said, adding that Pakistan assured Turkiye of assistance day when this tragedy took place. He said that goods weighing 100 tonnes are being sent to Turkey in truck. He urged people, welfare organisations and businessmen to take part in fund collection drive. He requested chief ministers to help in this regard.

“Committee has been formed to send funds to Turkiye. 1,486 tonnes of relief goods are being sent to Turkey and Syria,” he added.

He said that 13 centres have been established in Pakistan for collection of funds, adding that donations will also be collected in educational institutions across country. Earlier this week, Pakistan established relief fund to help victims of deadly earthquake in Turkiye.
