Roads construction in district central gears up thru Dr Asim’s efforts

KARACHI: People of Karachi after a long spell of torrential rains during past three months now witnessing reconstruction of over 20 roads in city. Engineering department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is carrying out construction and lining of more than 20 roads in different areas of city under a special grant of Rs 1 billion from Sindh government.

With efforts of Dr. Asim Hussain a senior PPP leader and former federal Minister, roads in District Central started with construction work immediately including Gharibabad to Usman Memorial Hospital, Madina Masjid Food Street, Ziauddin Hospital Chowrangi to Mujahid Colony, Sir Syed Girls College to Lasbela Chowrangi, Bada Maidan to Khilafat Chowk. These roads are being constructed at a cost of Rs 50 million each, informed sources disclosed.

Director General of KMC’s engineering department has been instructed to ensure completion of all under-construction roads within stipulated time of 45 days in any case. Citizens are grateful to leadership of Pakistan Peoples’ Party and Chief Minister for providing a grant of Rs 1,000 million to KMC for immediate relief.

District Central was abolished in 2000 and divided into four towns namely Liaquatabad Town, North Nazimabad Town, Gulberg Town and New Karachi Town. On July 11, 2011 Sindh government restored Karachi Central District again. Karachi Central District has dehs: Gujhro (P), in talukas of Liaquatabad and Gulberg and Kari Lakhi in taluka of North Nazimabad. It has 51 union committees. Its headquarters is DC Office, Sector 15-A/1, Buffer Zone. Deputy Commissioner is Taha Saleem since 27 July 2021, while Administrator is Syed Muhammad Ali Zaidi.
