Revival of Hikmat Philosophy may be an alternative to modern healthcare system

Hamdard Pakistan is an organization that has rescued the ‘Hikmat’ as a torchbearer but now its promotion depends upon the people in our society. We have to revisit the compromises made by depending upon the modern healthcare system that has manifold increased the number of diseases all over the world and exploiting it instead of decreasing; it to create a haven on earth for the masses.

The ‘Philosophy of Hikmat’ as described by Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahab Suri, head of the Philosophy Department of Karachi University as a guest speaker was an eye opener for the followers of modern healthcare. Dr. Arshad Saleem explained the initiatives taken by Hamdard Pakistan to promote the vision of Hikmat.

According to Dr. Arshad Saleem, there is a need for a solid healthcare system versus today’s modern sick care system where you can consult without being a patient. There is a great difference between medicine and Dawa (cure). Dawa could not be an alternative medium of medicine. A patient may have five different complaints like; Blood Pressure, high temperature, increased sugar, pain in the stomach and headache, etc. and he would have ultimately five different prescriptions for all the sicknesses. But this all could be or could not be a medium of Shifa. Infirmity (weakness) is not being considered at any stage, they said that the absence of a disease is health, while Aafiat is the main thing. Sehat and salamti is the message of Hamdard, or Aafiat se jetay raho.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahab Suri highlighted that the modern healthcare crisis solution is Eurocentric and based on the body. We believe as a body on dualist assumption but the opponents considered it just a psycho-chemical organism, they don’t rely on spirituality; meaning soul and body. They (Western scientists) consider a human being just a body for the last 200 years. They are about one billion in number and dominate the remaining six billion population of the world. Unlike the religious communities in the world, they don’t have even a single subject in the curriculum on spiritual evidence. They call it absurd mythology.

This minority considers the consciousness of being in the world as stronger and dominating than the consciousness of being with God. For the last sixteen years, we are struggling to introduce a course on spirituality in this medical academia of healthcare but there is nobody listening to us. The reason is that who will teach it, who will substantiate it, therefore it is eroded. Since the body is physically and experimentally verifiable, people have accepted it. They claim that human being is gradually disappearing from the world. This is a problem spearheaded by a specific type of education by the scientific community. They don’t consider man as a creation of God and it is being compromised.

In modern biological sciences human being is considered an animal, a social animal. They say as you can kill an animal or species, in the same way, humans may be killed, what difference is there? Through this technique, they made surgical manuals in the name of healthcare. In the modern world, the most popular way of doing surgical experimentation is earthquakes where in the garb of humanitarian aid grounds they get stormed and start healthcare experiments. For example, in the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan, the world medical teams invaded here. On that occasion a foreign doctor asked me why local physicians are not seen in your team, you have accompanied all youngsters. He advised me that whenever foreign medical teams visit this country you must have an experienced local physician attached to it.

The reason is that in America and other western countries they don’t have chances for surgical operations, therefore, wherever they find natural disasters they storm there without being asked to, just for the sake of experimentation unnecessarily at the cost of inhabitants. Since surgical operations are not possible without violation of medical and ethical SOPs, and it is allowed only in the emergencies of natural disasters. This is another type of compromise against the spiritual superiority of the human being by offering free food, shelter, medical aids, and financial facilities but using them as guinea pigs.

Similar theories are applied in the sports world and athletes are used to extract perfect and superhuman bodies by doing inhuman and pitiless experiments. Specialization by various physicians and surgeons has divided the human body into innumerable parts and diseases. First, they isolated the human body from the soul and then divided it into organs. After that diverted towards tissues, cells, subatomic cellular particles, DNAs, jeans, anatomy, chromosomes, etc. Man is disappeared in this scientific race of the modern world. The knowledge has been compartmentalized into unlimited sectors where no proper system is adopted.

To counter this horrible scenario of human desecration we have to get ourselves prepared through the age-old medication of Hikmat. It brings you to a full spectrum of things, not parts or fractions. It becomes through the totality of knowledge, and you are saved from exploitation. Our Hakeem knew the totality and had command of the body and soul simultaneously. They preferred the first soul and the body as patient; both were equally important to them. But unfortunately, modern science is a system of de-personalized. It has no sympathy for human beings but is concerned with its body only. The physician lefts you alone, he never says that you need dua not dawa. They say forget about you from where and whereto. The western world is dominated by a physical world that lacks spirituality. Hikmat is a school of thought that could generate alternative healthcare apparatus in this world and provide solutions to a lot of problems created by modern healthcare syndrome.
