KARACHI: For first time in Pakistan’s history, retired Boeing 737 was transported by road, creating an unusual spectacle as it journeyed from Karachi to Hyderabad.

154-kilometer trip took roughly two and half hours, with 110-foot-long, 40-ton aircraft carefully moved on Customs truck and trailer. Sight reminded many of similar transport of Boeing 777s across Saudi Arabia’s deserts last September. Prior to its move, jet’s wings and tail were removed, to be transported separately, according to supervisor of operation.

Once reassembled at Civil Aviation Training Institute in Hyderabad, aircraft will be used to train airport firefighters. While traffic on Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway remained open, convoy caused congestion along way.
