KARACHI: Repair work on water conduit damaged due to power breakdown occurred at Dhabeji Pumping Station in Thatta was underway for last 24 hours .

It was expected that work would be completed within next 24 hours, Water Board said. Leading to shutdown of three pumps due to rupture in 72-inch diameter pipeline, identified as pipeline number 5, supplies water to Karachi suspended. Breakdown has caused suspension of more than 18 million gallons of water to city. According to Water Board, rupture occurred due to back pressure of water. Repair work is estimated to take between 24 to 36 hours, during which Karachi may face significant water shortages. Authorities are working to restore supply and complete necessary pipeline repairs.
