KARACHI: Armed men shot dead prominent cleric Maulana Sufi Abdul Qayyum Naqshbandi in eraly morning, police said. According to police, Maulana Sufi Abdul Qayyum Naqshbandi was going home after offering Fajr prayers in masjid when he was gunned down by some assailants riding on motorcycle in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Block 9, Magsi Chowk.

Assailants shot him in head, killing him on spot. Cleric was killed outside his home. His body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital Karachi for an autopsy. Maulana Sufi was Principal of Madrasa Noorani Islamic Centre. He was also Chairman of Pakistan Ulema Association. Police started investigation of incident.

People of the area staged protest against killing of Maulana. They blocked roads coming to Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Block 9 in protest.
