LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s newly elected President Nawaz Sharif said that next two years might be challenging for government and people. Addressing party members after being elected as President, Nawaz Sharif said if government works hard in last three years of current tenure, country would be prosperous.
He was of view that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz are working hard for well-being of people. On Youm-e-Takbeer, PML-N President said that Bill Clinton, then US President, made him covert offer prior to Pakistan’s 1998 nuclear tests.
“Bill Clinton had offered Pakistan $ 5 billion to abandon nuclear tests but we refused it,” he added
He emphasised that Pakistan is nation that values its independence and will not compromise on its principles. “We are not nation that sells out.” Nawaz said that he was ousted from Prime Minister’s Office in 2017 through ‘conspiracy’.
Nawaz Sharif said ‘conspiracy’ against his government was hatched in London, adding that his political opponents, who had returned from London, staged sit-in.
During the sit-in, message was sent to him in which he was asked to resign or be ready for dire consequences.
“I told them to do whatever they want, but Nawaz Sharif will never resign,” he said.
Referring to May 9 riots, he said that we are ones who stand with May 28th (Pakistan’s nuclear tests day), not with May 9th.
he referenced former spy master General Zaheer-ul-Islam own admissions about experimenting with different parties and ultimately backing PTI, suggesting that Khan rise to power was orchestrated by external forces. General Zaheer-ul-Islam himself has said that they tried all parties and invited third force, believing it could deliver results.
They saw this potential within PTI. Imran Khan should tell us if this third force was not him, then who was, he demanded. Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif after assuming post of party President summoned consultative huddle on upcoming budget of fiscal year 2024-25 at Jati Umrah, Raiwind today.
