LONDON: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed early completion of rehabilitation in flood-hit areas and said entire nation is united for relief and rehabilitation of flood-affected people and government is determined to complete rehabilitation phase at earliest.

Talking to media persons here, he said government has allocated seventy billion rupees to provide relief to flood-affected people. He said a cash assistance of twenty-five thousand rupees is being provided to each flood-affected family in country through Benazir Income Support Programme. He said federal government in collaboration with provinces is providing food, tents, blankets, and other essential items to flood victims.

He said people are generously contributing to Prime Minister's Flood Relief Fund and all state institutions are working tirelessly for relief and rehabilitation of flood victims. He appreciated role of Armed Forces in helping flood-hit people. He also thanked friendly countries and humanitarian organisations for their assistance to help flood-affected people of Pakistan.

It must be mentioned here that amids devastating floods, an exorbitant donations both in form of cash and goods has been recived by the incumbent government from the international donors, NGOs and other known organisations globally Even the United Nations Chief Antonio Guterres has also appealed to the world to help Pakistan in the best way during this flood catastrophe.

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz Sharif will address 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 23 with his speech focusing on climate-induced catastrophic floods in country, Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement.

PM Shehbaz will participate in UNGA high-level debate in New York from September 19-23, FO said. His speech at UNGA will focus on challenges faced by Pakistan in wake of recent climate-induced catastrophic floods in country. “PM will outline concrete proposals for collectively tackling existential threat posed by climate change,” statement added. Statement said that premier will also share “Pakistan’s position and perspective on regional and global issues of concern, including Jammu and Kashmir”.  Further, premier will participate in Global Food Security Summit jointly organised by African Union, European Union and United States and a closed-door leaders gathering on COP27 bringing together select world leaders to discuss climate change.
