Massive floods: Army Chief says relief operation near to end

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that rescue operations in flood-affected areas is almost over and now rehabilitation process has begun which would take years to complete. In a recorded message, Chief of Army staff stated that he has been visiting flood-affected areas for last few days. “Yesterday I was in Balochistan’s area of Uthal and Bela and today I am here in Khaipur, Sindh and devastations here are massive,” he said, adding that federal, provincial governments, Pakistan Army, Navy, Airforce, welfare organisations are putting all-out efforts to provide rescue.
He appealed to affluent to step forward and contribute in order to help those affected by floods
“Come forward and help us in whatever manner you can financially or through material so that we can rehabilitate those affected,” he said.
Chief of Army Staff spent whole day with flood victims in relief and medical camps village Jilani, Khairpur and Kambar Shahdad Kot, said Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Chief of Army Staff emphasised that helping people of Pakistan in need was a noble cause and "We must take pride in serving them to best of our abilities".
COAS visited Army troops busy in relief activities in flood-affected areas of Khairpur and Kambar Shahdad Kot, Sindh, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. Army Chief spent whole day with flood victims in relief and medical camps established for local population at Village Jilani, Khairpur and Kambar Shahdad Kot . Flood victims at Khairpur and Kambar Shahdad Kot thanked COAS for reaching out to them and sharing their problems and discomfort due to floods.
COAS met with troops on ground and appreciated their efforts to bring comfort to people awaiting their support.
