ISLAMABAD: Former Senate Chairman and Pakistan Peoples’ Party leader Raza Rabbani has condemned police raid conducted at PTI leader Shahbaz Gill’s residence at Parliament lodges. In a statement, Senator condemning police raid said that sanctity of Parliament Lodges was violated for second time in four months. “First former and now current government has violated sanctity of Parliament Lodges,” he said, pointing out that police cannot carry out any action within premises of Parliament Lodges without Speaker’s permission. Former Senate Chairman added that no one raised voice against police entry into Parliament Lodges and Punjab Assembly.
“We are destroying sanctity of democratic institutions with our own hands,” he regretted. Police contingents conducted raid at a room being used by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Dr Shahbaz Gill at Parliament Lodges. During checking of room, raiding police team confiscated different cards and other items. It emerged that Gill’s room at Punjab House will also be searched. PPP Senator also condemned suspension of ARY News transmission, saying that channel’s closure is an attack on media freedom.
