Karachi: Supreme Court (SC) served notice to Interior Ministry over Rao Anwar’s petition to remove his name from exit control list (ECL). Three-member bench of SC Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard petition of former SSP-Malir Anwar. Lawyer of Rao Anwar in his plea submitted to SC stated that case against his client has been dismissed on which grounds his name was placed on ECL.

There is no reason to keep Anwar’s name on ECL, lawyer stated and pleaded with court to pass orders for striking down his name from Exit Control list. SC after hearing initial arguments in case, issued notices to Interior Ministry and other concerns and adjourned hearing of case for an indefinite period.

Last month, an anti-terrorism court acquitted former SSP-Malir and other accused in high-profile Naqeeb Ullah Mehsud murder case. Court ruled that prosecution has failed to prove allegations against prime accused Rao Anwar and others.

Mehsud was killed on January 13, 2018 in Karachi during fake encounter allegedly staged by SSP-Malir, senior superintendent of police of Malir district.
