Rain emergency declared in Karachi

KARACHI: In light of recent weather forecast by Meteorological Department, Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, has declared rain emergency.
Decision comes as precautionary measure to tackle anticipated heavy rains in city. Consequently, all staff vacations have been canceled and relevant institutions have been instructed to take immediate action. During his visit to various areas following initial showers, Salman emphasised that Solid Waste Management Board, along with staff of KMC are on high alert. He assured that necessary measures are in place, including cancellation of holidays for concerned departments. He directed Water Corporation to deploy machinery at key underpasses and highways across city to prevent waterlogging.
His inspection tour included areas such as Malir, Kala Board, Model Colony, Airport, Metropole, Sharia Faisal, Nursery and Karsaz. Addressing media, he expressed satisfaction with current situation, noting that there is no standing rainwater in any part of city or on main highways. He praised active and alert response of KMC and District Municipal Corporations staff.
