ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Railways has abolished 17,101 posts as part of its Rightsizing Policy.
This decision was made during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Rightsizing, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb in Islamabad. During the meeting, the Ministry of Railways provided a detailed report on its rightsizing efforts. The committee was informed that out of the 95,859 sanctioned posts within the ministry, 17,101 have already been eliminated, and an additional 5,695 posts are currently being phased out. The committee also reviewed the overall progress of rightsizing measures across various federal ministries. The Establishment Division reported that confirmations from 29 ministries and one constitutional body had been received, leading to the abolition of 11,877 posts and 4,660 dying posts. Furthermore, plans are in place to cut an additional 15,000 posts in the near future as part of the ongoing rightsizing initiatives.
The primary goal of these measures is to enhance the operational efficiency of the ministries, optimize resources, and align functions with core mandates while eliminating redundant positions. The meeting concluded with an instruction to continue implementing the rightsizing process across federal ministries in a phased approach to ensure the effectiveness, efficiency, and long-term sustainability of government operations.
