LAHORE: UK’s Royal Air Force (RAF) took lead in conducting first successful flight test of giant military transport aircraft fueled by cooking oil.
It is first time in history of world that an aircraft of large size has been flown on a 100 percent renewable fuel flight, according to press release by UK government. “They should be rightly proud of this achievement; it is breakthrough moment for RAF and an exciting development for Ministry of Defense,” said Baroness Goldie, UK’s Defence Minister. “Through RAF’s pioneering spirit, expertise and partnership with UK industry, British science and engineering are leading way in improving operational resilience and developing future operating capability in climate-changed world.” Flight of RAF Voyager, military version of Airbus A330, over Oxfordshire on renewable energy source opens up gateway towards employing sustainable energy means in future. Calculations suggest that lifecycle carbon emissions of renewable fuels are 80 percent lower than those of currently in-use non-renewable fuels.
