Actor Radhika Apte, known for her performance in lust stories, Badlapur and Andhadhun is incredibly picky about her projects. 37-year-old actress revealed that she turned down many sex comedies, a genre that was offered to her more after Badlapur, simply because derogatory language against women didn’t sit well with her.
Apte has said she won’t promote films that celebrate or enable sexist jokes either. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Apte revealed that she was offered multiple sex comedies post Varun Dhawan starrer-Badlapur, which she ended up turning down eventually. In Badlapur, she plays role of Vinay Pathak’s wife. In a scene, she strips to nothing in order to save her husband’s life from Dhawan. After film released, Radhika said she was offered roles in sex comedies, which she denied.
When asked about reason why she would refuse a big-ticket film, Apte told outlet, “I don’t have a problem with sex comedies. Hunterrr (2015) could be called a sex comedy as well. But, kind of sex comedies we had, in past, can be very derogatory to women and can be objectified. They objectify women and I don’t like humour. So, I don’t do it.” Apte added that script plays a big part for her to decide intention of a sex-comedy movie. “If you read script, you know what film is talking about. And what kind of jokes are made. I don’t mind a film where a chauvinist guy makes horrible jokes about women.
But, you are trying to show something else; there’s a story to it and it becomes something else. Apte was last seen in actioner Vikram Vedha starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan. She will be next seen in Netflix’s Monica, O My Darling.–Agencies
