KARACHI: Sohail Nisar senior Vice Chairman Pakistan Yarn Merchants Association (PYMA) expressing deep concern over discontinuing gas concession package for textile sector by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to continue concession packages for electricity and gas to save textile industry, which is backbone of national economy, from destruction.
In statement, he said that government had already terminated electricity relief tariff, which had resulted in large number of power looms being shut down and even after Eid-ul-Fitr could not be restarted. Now, discontinuation of gas concession package will cause an enormous increase in production cost of textile industry. “As gas is fundamental raw material for keeping production activities of textile industry running, government should create ease for industries and take measures to reduce production costs instead of creating difficulties.
He said that according to media, federal government has ended supply of RLNG at $ 9/MMBTU to textile, sports, surgical, leather and jute sectors while withdrawing subsidy of Rs 80 billion on gas for these five sectors.
