LAHORE: Punjab government ordered strict implementation of ‘one-dish rule’ in wedding events, which promotes austerity and discourages exhibitive trends among citizens. Set of decisions was taken in provincial cabinet session chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

She approved restoring free-of-cost medicines for cancer patients. Other decisions include approval to issuance of Kisan Cards, recommendations for wheat procurement, cash subsidy to small farmers, digital system for monitoring prosecutor department’s performance and increasing standards of first information report. CM Maryam ordered to strict implementation of one-dish rule at wedding parties.

Law was taken into effect for years in province to discourage exhibition of money among citizens, specifically reducing burden of expensive wedding feasts on deserving families who were forced to follow trend despite facing financial challenges.

On multiple occasions, provincial authorities took punitive actions against those citizens who violated law by showering local and foreign currencies, as well as serving lavish and expensive meals to guests. In bid to conserve energy amid worsening power crisis, federal cabinet also decided in 2022 to impose ban on wedding functions after 10pm in Islamabad.
