Punishment cannot be awarded to any accused on basis of statement: Court

LAHORE: Bail of PTI central President and former Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has been approved by court in  Rs 125 million corruption case.

Bail plea of Pervez Elahi came up for hearing before Anti-Corruption Court Lahore. Counsel for Anti-Corruption told court Pervez Elahi has filed written reply. Pervez Elahi has been found at fault during investigation.

Judge of court Ali Raza inquired what evidences you have. Counsel for AC told court one Afzal Shah has recorded statement against Pervez Elahi.

Court inquired was petitioner therein where money transaction took place allegedly. Counsel replied Pervez Elahi was not present on occasion. Anti- Corruption has three more witnesses against Pervez Elahi.

Court remarked punishment cannot be awarded to any accused on basis of his statement. Bail is confirmed on basis of lack of evidence.

Pervez Elahi did not appear in court and application for exemption from attendance was filed on his behalf.

Judge Ali Raza reserved judgment on Ch Pervez Elahi bail plea on completion of arguments of counsel. Later court issued decision. Anti-Corruption court confirmed bail of Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and ordered him to submit surety bonds worth Rs one million.
