Karachi: Transport was one of prolonged unnoticed issue in ‘city of lights’ with a totally tumble-down buses infrastructure causing agony to commuters. But better late than never, yes now unparalleled and viable plan initiated by Sindh government has turned into action to provide a healthy and modernised transportation facilities to Karachiites.
Inauguration of Orange Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Karachi by Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon is undoubtedly an appreciable step to serve masses with exceptional quality of commuting services.
Pakistan Peoples’ Party and provincial government of Sindh must be credited for this remarkable move at such a time when a comfortable and state-of-the-art transportation system was need of hour for resident of Karachi, without any doubt. This amazing transportation project has been completed under directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah who oversee all working of Sindh Mass Transit Authority with immense attention to turn it into a sure shot success.
This new commuting project has been dedicated to late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi to pay rich tribute to his services and contributions for suffering humanity. Not only this, but despite excessive inflation, hike in petroleum prices and economic disparity, fare of bus service is quite minimal ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 20. Orange Line BRT will operate on a 3.88-kilometer-long route that will be connected from Orangi Town to Board Office Chowk traffic intersections.
Sharjeel Memon during inauguration of Orange Line BRT told media persons that initially 20 air-conditioned buses will run on route having four bus stations and ticket booths on route. 12-meter long buses are equipped to accommodate 90 passengers at a time, hat will benefit around 50,000 residents.
This project was launched by former Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah in June 2016.
