Public relief, economic development among priorities in next budget: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that provision of maximum relief to masses and economic development would be among government’s priorities in upcoming budget for fiscal 2023-24.
Chairing meeting to discuss budget proposals for industrial sector he said budget would also encompass measures to enhance industrial growth as well as exports. PM said that he would personally make sure that proposals coming for industrial sector were incorporated into budget. He instructed authorities concerned to remove all unnecessary impediments in increase of small, medium and large-scale industrial production. He told meeting that previous government deliberately obstructed investment and industrial development in country.
Previous government violated agreement with International Monetary Fund to save its rule, making 220 million of Pakistan bear its brunt. He said being resilient nation, Pakistanis were gradually coming out of economic difficulties.
He told meeting that incidents of May 9 did not only create violence but also inflicted huge economic loss to country. He said government would help decrease industries’ production costs by supplying low-cost energy, besides arranging easy bank loans for small industries. Meeting was joined through video link by prominent industrialists and investors from all sectors.
Ishaq Dar, Syed Naveed Qamar, Ahsan Iqbal, Makhdoom Murtaza Mahmood, Engineer Khurram Dastgir, State Minister Dr Musaddiq Malik, Advisor Ahad Cheema, special assistants to PM Tariq Bajwa and Jahanzeb Khan, MNAs Qaiser Sheikh, State Bank governor and FBR chairman and relevant senior officers attended meeting.
