LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf issued warning that it will launch “Jail Bahro” movement if election schedule for Punjab Assembly is not immediately announced.
PTI Secretary General Asad Umar addressing news conference here demanded that election date be given, saying that otherwise they would take all possible steps to defend Constitution. Umar was joined by PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry and PTI Central Punjab General Secretary Hammad Azhar. They claimed that coalition government was running away from elections and violating Constitution to avoid facing PTI Chairman Imran Khan in polls.
Umar criticised ECP for not announcing election date after LHC ordered elections in Punjab Assembly within 90 days.
Umar said four days have passed since Lahore High Court gave decision on elections of Punjab Assembly. He pointed out that after four days ECP held meeting with Punjab Governor but it ended without giving date. “Whole nation was witnessing that coalition government was running away from elections, imported rulers and their allies were making all efforts by violating Constitution to ensure that they do not face PTI Chairman Imran Khan in polls,” he claimed.
He told media that right now Pakistan was facing constitutional crisis due to coalition government’s and its sympathisers’ reluctance to hold elections, adding that they fear Imran Khan would return to power and they also know that he was most popular leader among people.
