PTI leads in Poonch division in second phase of AJK LG polls

RAWALKOT: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won first place with 229 seats in Poonch division in second phase of local elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). According to Election Commission of Pakistan results of 708 out of 787 seats have been received. PTI was in first place with 229 seats, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was second with 129 seats and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) came third with 104 seats.

Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party was in fourth place with 28 seats and Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan came fifth with seven seats. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference and Jamaat-e-Islami won four seats each and independent candidates bagged 199 seats. Thus, ruling coalition won 233 seats while opposition parties won 276, with 79 seats pending results announcement. 

Like Muzaffarabad, mayorship of Rawalkot is also likely to fall to opposition.  Polling in third and last phase of elections will be held in all three districts of Mirpur Division, including Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber on December 8.
