LAHORE: In a significant development, Jahangir Tareen, disgruntled leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf is expected to establish new political party. News comes as blow to PTI which has already witnessed several high-profile departures in recent weeks.

Sources familiar with matter have disclosed that Jahangir Khan Tareen would assume role of party’s patron-in-chief, with several prominent dissident leaders of PTI, including Aleem Khan joining his ranks.

Reports suggest that Tareen and his like-minded associates have undertaken initial preparations, while party secretariat has been established in Lahore.  Additionally, Tareen has engaged in discussions with political leaders from within PTI, further indicating growing disillusionment within PTI’s ranks.  Disgruntled faction, spearheaded by Tareen, appears determined to carve out new political landscape in Pakistan.  Meanwhile, PTI has been grappling with series of setbacks since May 9 as numerous members, including close associates of Imran Khan, have publicly announced their departure from party. These defections have dealt significant blow to PTI’s credibility and stability, raising concerns about its ability to maintain united front in face of mounting challenges.

Formation of Jahangir Tareen’s new political party is likely to intensify political rivalries in Pakistan as country prepares for upcoming general election.
