KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has filed petition in Sindh High Court, challenging recently introduced Practice and Procedure Ordinance, which it claims violates Supreme Court ruling.

Petition argues that ordinance breaches constitutional principles and calls for its immediate suspension pending judicial review. In its petition, PTI stated that ordinance, which deals with judicial practices, contradicts ruling by Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.  According to petition, bench had previously ruled that an ordinance could only be issued in cases of emergency.

PTI further argued that ordinance could not be issued immediately after parliamentary session, which it claims goes against constitutional guidelines. Petition also alleges that government is using ordinance to involve judges in political matters, calling move unconstitutional. PTI has urged court to annul ordinance and suspend its implementation until final decision is made. After filing petition, PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh spoke to media, stating, “We are here today to challenge amendment being brought forward.
