LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf challenged ban imposed by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on broadcasting of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s speeches and statements.

Imran Khan’s lawyer Barrister Ahmed Pansuta filed petition in LHC and made Pemra party. Petition maintained that ban on speech was violation of fundamental rights as enshrined in Constitution.

“Constitution allows citizens freedom of expression,” it added. “Ban on freedom of expression will lead to chaos and political agitation in county and in current political situation, country cannot afford chaos by this kind of restriction.” PTI took this position in petition.

Plea also holds that only three out of 13 members issued ban notification and approval of at least five members is legal requirement for banning under Pemra Act. Earlier on Sunday, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority imposed  complete ban on broadcast of speeches, talks or public addresses of Imran Khan.
