PTI Chairman announces launch of ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’

Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan announced launch of ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ from February 22 to protest an alleged crackdown on PTI members.

“I am directing my party to start preparations for launch of movement on Wednesday,” he said in televised address via video link from his Zaman Park residence here. He said that movement would begin from Lahore and then spread to all major cities, encouraging nation to not be afraid and “Break idol of fear”.

“We will start movement from Lahore and then kick it off in all other major cities every other day and we will fill all jails,” he said. Imran Khan said that general elections are only solution to national issues. He said that incumbent government is committing constitutional violation by not announcing election date despite court orders. Chairing an important session regarding Jail Bharo movement session, movement focal person Ejaz Chaudhry gave briefing on preparations.

Initial lists have been prepared for first phase of fill jail movement. Chaudhry said that large number of PTI activists and supporters are ready to be part of movement. Khan has also been apprised regarding visits to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and central Punjab.  Vehemently protesting targeting of his party leaders who have been in crosshairs of law-enforcement agencies over various charges, Imran asserted PTI would not remain silent as government unleashes atrocities on his party’s members. He expressed gratitude to his supporters who had assembled outside his Lahore residence when rumors circulated of his supposed arrest.
