ISLAMABAD: Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf attempted to use Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges’ letter for its politics.
Reacting to PTI leaders’ statements on Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa’ suo moto notice on matter, Tarar asserted that PTI founder and leaders tried to politicise matter. He said that seven-member bench of Supreme Court was constituted under Article 184(3). Constitution of benches is prerogative of CJP and other senior judges, he added. Without naming PTI, Tarar said that those who filed references against judges should not give advice on independence of judiciary.
PTI rejected constitution of larger bench and demanded full court bench to conduct hearing on case while urging for proceedings to be live telecast.
Six serving judges of Islamabad High Court penned letter to Supreme Judicial Council, urging it to summon judicial convention to review matter of “Interference of intelligence agencies with judicial functions”. Justice (retd) Jillani refused to head inquiry commission on IHC judges’ letter, saying that letter was penned to Supreme Judicial Council and it did not fall under Article 209.
