PTA to block SIMs in October 2024

KARACHI: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced to block all SIM cards issued in names of deceased person.
PTA in its announcement stated that SIMs issued in names of deceased persons will be blocked from October 15, 2024. Meanwhile, authority directed citizens interested in transferring such SIMs to their name can process required documents at franchise/service centre of concerned SIM provider to avoid any inconvenience. Earlier to this PTA devised plan to block Subscriber Identity Modules of users in three phases. According to sources within PTA, authority has received data from National Database and Registration Authority and process to block SIMs will start on August 16. Details stated that SIMs registered on fake and canceled CNICs would be blocked in first phase, while in second phase, SIMs registered at expired CNICs to be blocked. In third and final phase SIMs registered under CNICs of deceased persons will be blocked, sources said. Furthermore, subscribers have started receiving messages on their SIMs.
