PSM employees’ promotion case: SC seeks report from labour court within 3 months

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has sought report from Labour Court on not deciding Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) employees’ promotion cases within three months. Court has also directed ministry of petroleum, ministry of privatisation, ministry of industry and production and finance to settle matters with SSGC.
A three member bench of SC presided over by Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan took up case for hearing. Justice Ijaz remarked steel mills is not earning even a single penny and is suffering loss of Rs one billion per month. Subsidy of billions of rupees is being provided every year to maintain it.
Steel Mills is fully shut since 2015 and it is not yielding one tonne production. Counsel for employees said that SC should announce decision on employees’ appeals. Suo motu notice will go on running.
