Protective bail: PTI Chief likely to appear before LHC today

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan is likely to appear before Lahore High Court today for protective bail after issuance of non-bailable arrest warrant in Toshakhana case. Bail plea was filed after Islamabad police reached former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence to arrest him.

Additional sessions judge Zafar Iqbal of an Islamabad court had issued former Prime Minister’s non-bailable arrest warrant on February 28.

Sources said, Imran Khan is expected to appear before LHC today to seek protective bail after Islamabad’s sessions court issued non-bailable arrest warrant for him in Toshakhana case over non-appearance. Meanwhile, Imran Khan decided not to appear in Toshakhana case before court today.

Sources privy to development said due to security threats, Khan decided against presenting before Islamabad court. Security team informed Khan about situation during last hearing, according to sources.

As per sources, legal team apprised Khan of legal aspects in this regard as well. Legal team will file petition today in Islamabad High Court for protective bail and decision of additional session judge will also be challenged. Lawyers will seek permission to present Khan before court via video link. For protective bail of Imran Khan LHC will also be moved today.

Sessions court rejected Imran Khan’s plea seeking annulment of non-bailable arrest warrants issued against him for his failure to appear before court in Toshakhana case. Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal remarked that Mr Khan’s lawyers had apprised court day warrants were issued that their client would not appear before court.
